ELISABETE'S BIO & AWARDS
Elisabete was born and raised in Portugal. She studied design for 5 years at ESAD and then went on to study and specialize in fashion and advertising photography. She started her career working for magazines such as Cosmopolitan and FHM, and collaborating with Lisbon’s Fashion Week.
In 2006, she set up her own studio, Nouvelle Photo, where she continued to produce work for magazines and corporate clients, develop projects for galleries, and produce education workshops in studio photography. In 2008, to further her international experience, she moved to Amsterdam where she digitized films for the Eye Museum for global use and successfully established herself as a creative photographer.
In 2011, Maisão initiated a major new project taking her around the world to different cultures, living with locals and capturing the essence of their day to day lives. As a result, in collaboration with the NGO FoVIN, she published her first book, “Turning the Wheels – Nepal”, and exhibited the project in several international galleries.
Elisabete currently lives in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where she continues to be inspired by the culture and in particular, the political issues facing Brazil today. She extensively covered the political protests of 2013-2014. Of major significance, she was the assisting photographer to world renowned photographer David Alan Harvey for the Magnum team’s “Offside Brazil” project during the 2014 World Cup. Elisabete’s work has been featured in the Artzia Magazine, Le Monde newspaper, and chosen for the Daily Dozen of National Geographic.
